Accentuate is a game that requires every player to make a fool of themselves and the result is rip roaring fun. Here, we thought we would give you a step by step guide on how to play this hit board game.
Playing the game of Accentuate is simple. The aim of the game is for your team to guess as many accents as possible, guessing the accents can be really difficult, due to the fact that not everyone is good at accents and not everyone knows every accent in the cards.

How to play Accentuate:
We split the players into two teams, ensuring each team had a minimum of two players each. Mandy and Holly joined together against Katy and John.
Firstly, as Katy had drawn the short straw, she was selected as her team’s speaker for the first round, and rolled the dice to determine play options – Swap, Play, Pass or All.
PLAY – if this lands on play, you simply choose a card from each pile and continue to play.
PASS – If the dice lands on “pass” you can decide to either play on, or pass onto another player in your team who would then choose a card and play.
SWAP – You can swap the accent card once chosen, but beware the timer is still running!
ALL – All of your team mates except for one player can help you with the accent.
There are two different piles of cards – “Quotation” and “Accent. As Katy was her team’s speaker she took one card from each of the two piles. The timer was flipped and she had just 30 seconds to read the ‘quotation’ in the ‘accent’ stated – without giving any other clues to the answer.
The speaker’s team can confer before presenting the one official guess to win one point. However, since on this occasion there were just two members to each team, John was on his own as he struggled to guess what Katy had accentuated. How he did it nobody knows, but he guessed correctly and happily accepted his score point as he passed the onous over to Holly. The team with most points after every team and player has accentuated is the winner.
If you, like the UTCT office staff, have just two players on each team it’s a good idea to decide how many rounds you want to play, ensuring your game doesn’t end too soon. The winning team is the team with the most points at the end of the rounds.
This is one game everyone should try! It’s so much fun as through tears of laughter you try to get your accents just right – have you heard a Russian talking with a Jamaican accent? Holly obviously had because that was what she accentuated when it was her turn.
This game really is so much fun and as the entire UTCT office got involved we laughed our way throughout the game. This is definitely going to be a big seller for Christmas 2014 and personally, we can’t wait to play it again!
