We’ve been so lucky with the weather this summer; it isn’t often that we in the UK get such a lot of sunshine.
Unfortunately for many the arrival of the summertime means just one thing, the common complaint at this time of year –allergies.
In the UK alone around 80% of allergy sufferers are affected by the common dust mite.
These little critters thrive in hot and humid conditions and they particularly love your bedding.
They survive on our dead skin cells and as the average person sheds 2 to 3 pounds of skin each year there’s no shortage of food for them.
In an average sized mattress there are between 2 and 3 million dust mites and it is their droppings, which are about the size of a grain of pollen that causes our allergies.
Just by simply turning over in bed they are released into the atmosphere, but help is at hand as there are a few things we can do to help get rid of these pesky varmints.
Make sure to keep your rooms well ventilated as this will reduce humidity.
Fit an extractor fan into your bathroom and kitchen and be sure to wipe away any condensation from your windows etc every day.
“Night, night, sleep tight – don’t let the bed bugs bite.”
Wash your bedding at 60 degrees and invest in anti allergy duvet and pillow protectors.
If you are considering a new carpet – why not try wooden flooring as dust mites can’t survive on hardwood floors.
If it’s time for a new sofa – forget fabric and treat yourself to one of the popular leather or vinyl options.
