New to be released from Harper Lee is “Go Set A Watchman” which has sent fans into a frenzy with the authors name even trending on Twitter.

“To Kill A Mocking Bird” was an epic title, which may not have been  written had it not been for a thoughtful Christmas gift from a famous friend.

In 1956, the author was a ticket agent for British Overseas Airways Corporation who struggled to find the time to write when she was working so much. After telling her friend Michael & Joy Brown in New York, she was given a Christmas Gift that would in turn change her life for ever.

The generous two gifted Lee with an entire year’s salary to allow her the time to focus on writing, during which time “To Kill A Mocking Bird” was written.

Speaking to McCall’s magazine in 1961, the author said “There was an envelope on the tree, addressed to me. I opened it and read: ‘You have one year off from your job to write whatever you please. Merry Christmas.  They assured me that it was not some sort of joke. They’d had a good year, they said. They’d saved some money and thought it was high time they did something about me.”

A kindness changed her life forever – just goes to prove that Christmas truly is a miraculous time!
