Monopoly Junior takes on a whole new meaning to the fast-dealing property trading game as instead of collecting money, you need to collect as much fuel as possible. The board game requires a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 4 and is suitable for ages 5 years and up.
So how do you play Monopoly Juniors Disney Planes? UnderTheChristmasTree got the game to find out.
When opening up the Disney Juniors board game we first noticed that it looks the same as other Monopoly games, the board unfolds in 4 folds, there are characters to represent you on the board and squares such as GO, Just Visiting Jail, To Jail and Free Parking are all there but everything else is different!
First thing we did was nominate Mandy as the banker, but instead of handing out money, players received fuel money and the banker is called Fuel Attendant. Each player then picked a Plane Racer and receives 14 fuel money and then rolled the dice to see who rolled the highest as they then move first and so on. Katy rolled the highest so she went first and then Elaine, Holly and then John took their turns.
When you land on a space on the board, follow that spaces instructions, Katy landed on a Planes character which had no Hanger which meant that she could then go ahead and pay the fuel price and keep the card. Elaine was next to roll and she landed on the Race Challenges card and followed the instructions on the card – in this case she had to pay fuel and put it into the Prize Fund box which you set up at the beginning on the game and place in the Prize Fund place on the board.
John’s turn was next and when he rolled the dice he landed on a space which Katy had already bought a Plane Hanger for and he had to pay her 2 fuel payments – he wasn’t happy about this. Then Holly was going around the board when uh-oh she landed on the GO TO Jail space and had to spend time in Jail! the only way she was released from jail was by paying F1 to the Fuel Attendant! After carrying on around the board game, Elaine landed on a space in which she had to pay Fuel to Katy and released that she didn’t have enough fuel to pay and was declared bankrupt at which point the game was over!
There is another option to make the Monopoly Juniors Disney Planes a bit more challenging but adding in the following rules:
Fuel Boost – If you own two cards of the same colour, charge double when anyone lands on either of them.
Swap! – Trade cards with other players for fuel if you’re bankrupt. Swap cards with other players to make pairs and charge double! When you trade cards,
make sure you swap Hangers too!
Win! – When the game ends, count up your fuel. Now add the individual values of each cards to your own score. If you have the most fuel, you win!
Storing the game away was easy, the game board folded away into one small square, the plane hangers and plane racers went back inside the sealed bag along with the dice and the fuel money and race challenge cards were stored back into the box. Overall this game was lots of fun, we liked the different idea of being able to fly and it was easy to store away.
