Google Doodle Celebrates Frank Hornby’s 150 Birthday

Frank Hornby was a pioneering toy creator whose legacy continues to this day.

Google have celebrated the innovation and creativity of the man behind the range of toys which has made him a household name. He had no training in engineering and started to make toys for his children from metal and realised that with the right interchangeable parts, they could be made into lots of things.

Famous for his Hornby trains, Frank is also responsible for Meccano construction sets and Dinky Toys cars.

Although he died in 1936, his name and vision lives on with millions around the world still running Hornby train sets, building Meccano models and collecting Dinky cars.
