Today is a special day for Charles John Huffam Dickens – because  this would have been his 206th birthday.

Born in Landport, Portsmouth on 7th February, 1812 who would have thought that this tiny mite would one day become such a world known writer. Best known as simply Charles Dickens, he created some of the world’s best-known fictional characters and over 100 years later we still read his books.

Below are 5 of our favourite Charles Dickens quotes, including a few Christmas ones of course:

  • “Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug!” – A Christmas Carol
  • “A word in earnest is as good as a speech.” – Bleak House
  • skewered through and through with office-pens, and bound hand and foot with red tape.David Copperfield
  • “Oliver Twist has asked for more!”- Oliver Twist
  • There is probably a smell of roasted chestnuts and other good comfortable things all the time, for we are telling Winter Stories – Ghost Stories, or more shame for us – round the Christmas fire; and we have never stirred, except to draw a little nearer to it. – A Christmas Tree

      Hi,

Thanks for your comment and for pointing this out, those pesky elves are obviously still very tired after Christmas and made a miscalculation!

      Thanks,
