Today is a special day for Charles John Huffam Dickens – because this would have been his 206th birthday.
Born in Landport, Portsmouth on 7th February, 1812 who would have thought that this tiny mite would one day become such a world known writer. Best known as simply Charles Dickens, he created some of the world’s best-known fictional characters and over 100 years later we still read his books.
Below are 5 of our favourite Charles Dickens quotes, including a few Christmas ones of course:
- “Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug!” – A Christmas Carol
- “A word in earnest is as good as a speech.” – Bleak House
- skewered through and through with office-pens, and bound hand and foot with red tape.– David Copperfield
- “Oliver Twist has asked for more!”- Oliver Twist
- There is probably a smell of roasted chestnuts and other good comfortable things all the time, for we are telling Winter Stories – Ghost Stories, or more shame for us – round the Christmas fire; and we have never stirred, except to draw a little nearer to it. – A Christmas Tree

Charles Dickens would be 206 not 106 today!
Hi,
Thanks for your comment and for pointing this out, those pesky elves are obviously still very tired after Christmas and made a miscalculation!
Thanks,
