International Children’s Book Day

Today is International Children’s Book Day! celebrated since 1967, on or around Hans Christian Andersen who was a famous author and poet and is best remembered for his fairy tales, is aimed at celebrating a love of reading and call attention to children’s books.

Every year the day is sponsored by a different country member of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). IBBY is a non-profit organisation which aims to bring together children and books by hosting a wide range of activities.

You can get your child involved by taking part in the number of events being held including:

  • Competitions
  • Talks from authors
  • Illustrations
