The survey of 5,900 customers was carried out by Verdict Research showed that John Lewis gained scores for service exceeding those of other retailers and it also scored highly for product quality.

Verdict director of research and analysis, Maureen Hinton, said: “John Lewis swept the board this year coming top in all its product categories, including for the first time, clothing.

“Apart from its service credentials its product ranges are delivering the inspiration and trust that customers appreciate.

Bonmarche is awarded a high score by its customers because it provides mature women with a well-targeted range of clothing combined with good  service which is not widely available elsewhere.”

Verdict’s survey also reveals the best retailers by sector, with John Lewis taking first place in clothing, homewares and electricals and the retailer was also chosen as first place for it’s customer services.
