Described as “The anagram game that will drive you bananas!” this jumbo version is ideal for summer outdoor play, wet summer days indoors or for classroom fun.
The big yellow banana (you’d never eat one that size!)19″ zipped bag contains the same 144 tiles that are in the smaller version. These tiles however are water resistant and measure a whopping 3” square, so providing the sunny weather holds, this would be ideal for some run around family beach fun.
Because of the yellow tote bag, this version, although huge, is easy to carry around and as you don’t require pencils, paper or a board to play its ready to go whenever or wherever the notion takes you.
Will Dad be the winner or will Mum’s word search expertise push her into top spot? With Bananagrams they might both be left behind by their children as they race to build giant crosswords grids and use up all their letters.
Kids aged 5 to 105 can play together and not only will you all have loads of fun; the kids will also increase their vocabulary without even noticing. As for the adults –well it’s time to put your brain in gear or the children may well beat you to it and call out ‘Bananas!’
The UTCT team challenged Mandy (our youngest member) to a game during the lunch break but due to her spelling ability (?) and our loud laughter, we ran out of time and were unable to finish off our game.
Simple to play, just empty out the contents of the big banana bag and turn each tile face down, each player then takes between 15 and 20 of the cream lettered tiles, turns them face up and starts making words. The first person to use up all their tiles shouts ‘Peel!’ and everyone must grab another letter; this goes on until all of the 144 tiles are used.
The winner is the first player to use up all their tiles and call out ‘Bananas!’ Children have as much chance of winning as adults. Educational and portable Jumbo Bananagrams is great fun for all ages and if younger children are playing along simply bend the rules to give them more tiles at first.
No matter how old you are Bananagrams is sure to drive you absolutely bananas … in the nicest possible way!
