Lego Lord of the Rings Attack on Weathertop 9472

Deep in the ancient fortress four little Hobbits sit down to rest and put on a campfire but as the fire draws attention to them Frodo desperately tries to put it out but it is too late as the Ringwraits (or Nazguls as all you die-hard fans known them by) find them and start to attack. Use your swords, the hidden flick missiles and spring the trapdoor to help save frodo and the rest of the hobbits. Lets take a closer look at the Lego Lord of the Rings Attack on Weathertop 9472 set.

Representing the scene from The Fellowship of the Ring where on their way to visit the elves at Rivendale Aragorn and The Hobbits decide to take camp at the ancient ruin, as Aragorn goes off scouring Sam, Merry and Pippin decide to put a camp fire on but as Frodo tells them to ‘put it out you fools!’ the Ringwraiths have already noticed, they arrive and move in on them, Frodo slips on his ring but is then stabbed by the Witch-King of Angmar. Strider runs to their aid and he battles with them with a torch – all in a days work for Strider! The Lego 9472 set comes with 5 minifigures: Aragorn, Frodo, Merry and 2 Ringwraiths.

Aragorn who we think is slightly disappointing as it is the same minifigure from the Helms deep set, he has on his tunic with leather waistcoat but we had kind of hoped he would be wearing his strider range from the north look but as this is just one of the figure’s it doesn’t matter. He has a double-sided face just like all of the minifig’s – we can already guess what side of his face he will use when the Nazgul come to greet him!

Frodo who in this set has a green cloak instead of the grey one in the Shelob attack set this is because the fellowship were given new cloaks after leaving Lorien. He has dark brown legs, a reddish torso which is printed with a white blouse, red waistcoat and reddish brown jacket. On one side of his face he has a grim expression, and the other has a terrified screaming mouth which makes him look like he’s shouting for Sam! As you may have guessed he comes with The Ring… it actually looks more like a bracelet on him than a ring and his sting, With his curly dark brown hair and pure white eyes Frodo’s journey is about to get a whole lot more dangerous!

Merry who is also wearing a cloak but his one is in an olive colour, he has dark brown legs and he wears a blue shirt with mustard waistcoat and to finish it off he has on a bottle green jacket over the top. Merry has curly orange hair and like the other has a double sided face one with a slight grin and the other looking angry. Merry will soon find out what a Big difference a small Hobbit can make.

We couldn’t wait to see how Lego would design their Ringwraits and we can easily say we are not disappointed with their black hood and tattered black cloak these “things” are ready for action. hey have a blank, black head, and a black torso which continues the cloak design and we cant help but feel they look slightly like a Jedi all they need is a lightsaber – how cool would that be! These evil looking creatures can carry their blade and ride on their black horses – Isenguard have really pulled out all the stops with these lot!

Now the main part of the set is weathertop as you might remember this is where Frodo, Strider and the other hobbits set up camp after they leave the The Inn of the Prancing Pony. This does look like the ruins in the film only a lot smaller, it comes with tan bricks and grey coloured ones for the outer building. The tower opens up and reveals two alcoves on one side a small weapons rack and the other what can only be described as stones and spikes. You also get the flickfires, a cook pot for Sam to use all his ingredients and stairs leading to the to of the playset.

Overall the attack on weathertop Lego really does capture the actual scene well and has a good mix of bricks and accessories. We would have loved to have gotten a pippin and Sam minifigure just to finish the set off and even a different looking aragorn figure. Part of the collection which is to be released in August these will be a sought after Christmas toy.
