Should More Retailers Banish The Airbrush?

Hot off the press are new images of Beyonce which have been heavily airbrushed to make her appear slimmer. Roberto Cavalli recently promoted his designs for the Mrs Carter world tour, and at the same time slimmed the singer down to cartoon like proportions.

Beyonce has recently been involved in a public spat with clothing retailer ‘H&M’ after they tried to release airbrushed images of the star to promote her new collaboration with them. H&M came under fire after Mrs Carter reportedly warned them to release the unairbrushed pictures or face loosing the collaboration with the global superstar.

With all the recent hype over airbrushing, high street retailer ‘Debenhams‘ have decided to no longer use airbrushing on their models, releasing a statement saying ‘we have a moral obligation to ban the airbrush’.

A spokesman for the department store continued;-

“We want other retailers to follow suit and encourage positive body-image through minimal retouching rather than bombarding them with unattainable body images”

With such an outcry for the airbrush to be banished, it’s a wonder more retailers haven’t joined in! What do you think? should more retailers banish the airbrush?
