Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn has revealed that the Platt family will be at the centre of Christmas this year.

The plot will see David’s (played by Jack P Sherperd) world rocked in a shock revelation. Speaking about the plot the Coronation Street producer said:

“It’s going to be massive and life-changing for the Platts as there’ll be a revelation that knocks David for six and will change everything for him. That’s when we’ll see the face from Kylie’s past really make an impact.”

Fans have learned that actor Sean Ward has been cast as Kylie Platt’s (played by Paula Lane) ex-boyfriend Callum. The character has been described as having “good-looking charm and a dark edge” and looks set to have a negative influence on Kylie.

Elsewhere on the street, the Rovers Return will also be the centre of the action. In an interview with Digital Spy, Blackburn revealed Steve (played by Simon Gregson) will also feature in the Christmas storyline adding: “Steve will have a bit of a mission that day after making some terrible decisions. He’ll show utter determination to give his family and friends the best Christmas Day ever, but with a personal and mental challenge to him.”

Last year’s festive episodes focused on Roy (played by David Neilson) and Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) as they shared their final Christmas together as Hayley had terminal pancreatic cancer. This December will prove an emotional time for Roy:

“Roy won’t have a good Christmas at all, but the episode is also going to be full of love and laughter as well. I loved last year’s Christmas episode because even though what was happening to Hayley was so tragic, there was a huge sense of love and community that came out of it, so it’ll be that sort of Christmas again this year,” added Blackburn.
