You’ve taken the plunge and decided what two weeks you will be taking off work and taking you and the kids for the annual holiday.
Staycation or Vacation?
What will you choose? Will it be a Staycation or a Vacation?
This time is when you and your loved ones get away from the pressures of work and school and relax as a family.
So how will you spend this valuable time?
Are you already poring over the glossy brochures featuring far away places where the sun always shines?
Or are you heading for a Greener holiday – perhaps camping or a caravan holiday somewhere in the UK?
OK the sun doesn’t always shine but that’s not really what it’s all about – it’s more about you, your family and quality, fun time spent together that you’ll all talk and laugh about again and again.
Holidays at home are always a bit more cost effective – and with everyone counting the pennies this year it is a popular option, but how would you fill the time?
You can always get the bikes out and head away for the day for a picnic. Great exercise for everyone and tired kids when you get back.
Put the kids in the car and visit a local beach or if it’s wet go to the swimming pool
Take them to visit the zoo – when was the last time you could relax and laugh at the antics of the monkeys or the penguin parade.
Things you must remember when on a staycation
- You are on holiday!
- Put the mail to one side to open when you ‘get back from holiday’
- Put the phone on to answerphone and don’t reply unless it’s an emergency.
Does the stress of a vacation take some of the pleasure of the holiday away from you?
Kids and airports are not exactly a match made in heaven – but time spent in the sun, wandering along the beach before heading back to your hotel/apartment to get ready for a meal that someone else has prepared absolutely is!
If the bright Mediterranean sun is for you then take the stress out of the holiday by being prepared.
Be prepared for your vacation
- Think about a last minute booking- it may well see you grabbing a bargain break.
- Take along some of the kids favourite games/handheld consoles (don’t forget the chargers) to keep them happy when waiting at the airport.
- Don’t forget family prescriptions
- Cancel the milk and newspapers
Whatever option you decide upon don’t forget the camera!
The most important thing about any holiday is for you and your family to relax and have fun together.
Take part in our fun survey will it be a staycation or vacation? The poll will stay up for a week and the results will be posted here when it’s ended.
