It may just be August but already Lady Mary, Lady Edith and Lord Grantham are shivering in the snow as Downton Abbey transforms into a winter wonderland for this year’s Christmas Day Special.

Transferring from the usual Downton Abbey estate to the amazing Alnwick Castle in Northumberland (famously known for being Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films) which has been transformed from the warm August weather into a snowy wonderland.
As the sun continues to shine and temperatures continue to rise, Bailiffgate is transformed into a cold wintery Downton scene, while the pub, the Crown and Anchor, turns into a warm and welcoming haven for those trying to escape the cold wintery weather.
Due to air on ITV over the Christmas period, we can but hope that this year will be free from more heart wrenching moments like the 2012 episode which saw Matthew Crawley die in a car accident just as his son was born
Fans of the series will be delighted that this time the Christmas special will feature the festive period as opposed to 2013’s Christmas special when the downstairs staff went to the beach and the Grantham/Crawley family enjoyed a garden party.
We just can’t wait to see Downton Abbey‘s 2014 Christmas Day special.
