What Is Mothers Day?

Mothers Day is celebrated all over the world, and celebrates mothers and mother figures.

Initially an American invention in 1908, mothers day was started because Anna Jarvis had a memorial for her mother two years after her tragic death.

From then on, she campaigned to have ‘Mothers Day’ as an official recognized holiday in the US, and since her victory in 1914, people from all over the world have joined in to dedicate a day to our mothers.

Mothers day is typically celebrated on one day in March, April or May. Many faiths have relate Mothers day to religious figureheads and events, such as The Virgin Mary in the Roman Catholic faith and in Hindu, Mother’s Day is a celebration of the day of the new moon and is referred to as “Mata Tirtha Aunshi”.

Typically, Mothers Day in the UK is celebrated with well wishing cards and gifts. It is also know as mothering Sunday and this year it is on March 10th.
