One Direction beat Justin Bieber and Rihanna by picking up three MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) for What Makes You Beautiful.

The group which was put together on X Factor and has now become the first UK group to debut at number one on the US album chart earlier this year with Up All Night has took home three huge awards from MTV’s VMA’s.
They five young lads received an award for:
- Best new artist
- Best pop video
- Most share-worthy video
Niall Horan (who is 1 fifth of the band) said: “Thank you so much! We have grown up watching this show and to collect one of these [awards] straight away is incredible,”
Simon Cowell, the band’s manager tweeted the group saying: “Congratulations 1D. I’m very proud of you. Celebrate!”
