The Early Sixties – 1960 To 1963

1960 was a landmark year for British toys, LEGO made its debut at the Brighton Toy Fair and took the country completely by storm.

Space Hoppers meanwhile had every child in Britain bouncing with unbridled joy and became one of the most recognisable symbols of the entire decade.

1961 brought blue eyed boy Ken to join Barbie on every little girl’s Christmas list.

1962 saw Mousetrap arrive with its brilliant catchphrase and Airfix kit modelling become enormously popular.

Mid Sixties – 1964 To 1966

1964 was an extraordinary year, Mr Potato Head went plastic with a precision moulded man made spud and Beatlemania swept the toy market.

1965 brought one of the most exciting milestones when the James Bond Aston Martin became the very first ever winner of the prestigious Toy of the Year award.

Matchbox opened their car doors to enormous excitement throughout the mid sixties – affordable collectable and absolutely bags of fun.

Late 60s Christmas Toys – 1967 To 1969

1968 saw Mattel revolutionise the toy car market with the arrival of Hot Wheels, flashier faster and more exciting than anything that had come before.

1969 brought the wonderfully anarchic Silly String onto the UK market, instantly beloved by every child and slightly less beloved by every parent who had to clean it up.
