Billy, who plays Jimmy Mullen in the Glasgow-based soap is no stranger to the stage having performed at the Royal Lyceum, taken part in various Christmas shows and pantomimes and even some Shakespeare.

“We film a year’s worth of River City episodes in two 14-week stints so it can be quite busy!” he said. “If anyone mucks up on TV you can just say cut, and you can have a bit of fun with it in panto, but if you’re in a more serious production you can’t just say stop and go back!

“There’s been a good variety, I’m very lucky. Especially the Christmas shows, it’s fantastic for the kids and it’s great to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

For Billy, it will be his first time performing at the Carnegie Hall and he’s looking forward to taking to the stage.

“I’ve been through to see the theatre and it was lovely,” he said. “I’ve never played there before and I’ve played almost every theatre in Scotland. I was really impressed, it’s a nice size and I liked the acoustics. It’s a lovely old theatre in a good location.

“I’ve read the book and I want to order a copy of the DVD to re-familiarise myself with the character, although it is a stage adaptation and things will be different.

“Christmas is my favourite time of year anyway and for the kids it’s their favourite time of the year. It’s all about the fun factor – the whole thing is uplifting and adds to the whole atmosphere and ambience of that time of year. It’s just about seeing the sheer joy on kids’ faces when they are participating and singing along.”

Preperation for the musical show is already under way and will run from Wednesday 2nd December until Christmas Eve. The show has been written, directed and produced by the team that put on Snow White last year and Pinoccio in 2013, Peter Pan promises to be the perfect Christmas night out to laugh and sing along.

Tickets are onsale now, priced between £9.50 and £14.50, with a variety of sale nights, group offers and concessions.
