Captivating the nation last Christmas, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse has been nominated for Best Animated Short Film and we can see why!

Airing on Christmas Eve later afternoon last year, the short film tells the story of kindness, friendship, courage and hope based on Charlie Mackesy’s internationally best-selling illustrated children’s book.

All reimagined in full colour with hand-drawn traditional animation was a family favourite during the festive period.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse wasn’t the only BBC show to be nominated as a further six across a range of categories for the Academy Awards 2023, from Best Picture, Directing and Original Screenplay to an Animated Short, Documentary Features and Actor in a Leading Role were also shortlisted.

Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer says: “I’m proud of the role the BBC has played in supporting each of these exceptional films, the breadth of Oscar nominations demonstrates our commitment to helping bring outstanding storytelling to audiences. Congratulations to all the nominees.”

The winners will be announced for the 95th Academy Awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles on 12 March.

Let’s hope Santa can spread a little magic for The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse.
