Mince Pie Winner: Iceland Luxury 6 All Butter Mince Pies – Buy Here
Verdict: Our best mince pies got the whole office talking about the taste that reminds you exactly of Christmas! These snowflake embossed mince pies were full of flavour and filled its golden pastry to the brim. With a gorgeous thick rich sauce and a delicious shortbread biscuit taste, these were not overly too citrus and had the perfect balance of sweet and spice. The ultimate mince pie to leave Santa in Christmas Eve…Pass us another!
Christmas Pudding Winner: Sainsburys Taste The Difference Winter Berry, Clementine & Gin Christmas Pudding
Verdict: A Christmas pudding should have the right amount of alcohol, nuts, fruit and sweetness and Sainsbury’s have delivered. Our taste testers were very impressed with the texture of the pudding, it held its shape perfectly, the balance between Gin and berries were perfect and wasn’t too heavy. An unusual twist on the traditional pud but for us just pass us this pud with some cream (or extra glass of gin) and we’re happy!
Christmas cake Winner: Aldi Specially Selected Luxury All Over Iced Cake
Verdict: Aldi was the winner of our best Christmas cake category. With its stuning star design, this will make your dinner table glistened with sparkle. The fruity cake is layered with a good amount of icing and had huge amount of raisins inside, the marzipan was not overly sweet and like true Christmas cake a slight boozy kick. Simply divine!
Centrepiece dessert Winner: Co-Op Irresistible Belgian Chocolate Orange Wreath Cake
Verdict: The winner of our 2021 Christmas dessert & centrpiece goes to this beauty! Packed full of flavour, this chocolate bauble cake has orange throughout which balanced out the sweetness of the chocolate. The baubles are also a treat as these are rice balls which have been covered in a beautiful gold and pink shimmer, all finished off with chocolate curls. Our tasters loved this wreath cake, they said it had the perfect balance of chocolate and loved the orange throughout, and would love to have this as their Christmas centerpiece.
Festive fizz winners: Tesco Finest Premier Cru Champagne, £21.00
Verdict: The first-place winner of our fizz category undoubtedly goes to Tesco Finest Premier Cru Champagne. Our tasters said this was full and fruity and had a good depth to it, they all said it had more chardonnay taste was not at all acidic. The balance of green apple, citrus to sweet brioche ticked every single box – poor us two more!
Cheese Winner: Asda Extra Special Best Of British Cheese Selection
Verdict: With a little bit of everything, this cheese board topped the chart with Burland Bloom, Mature Cheddar, Kidderton Ash Goats Cheese, Farmhouse Creamy Blue and Smouldering Ember cheese. Our tasters said they loved the wide selection of cheeses included and that there was decent amount of each one. They enjoyed the Mature Cheddar and Famrhouse Blue the most but would happily have all of these, over and over again.
