“Taking pictures is something I usually do with my mobile so when Fujifilm’s new Instax SQUARE instant camera arrived I was intrigued to see if it produced the same high quality pictures. Plus with Christmas around the corner was this the perfect pressie for those who love to snap? Before I go into more depth, I’ll quickly pop some of the key features which I loved below:
- Retractable lens
- Full-automatic exposure control
- Selfie mirror on the front of the lens
- Selfie/close-up mode
- Auto frame counter
- Three stunning colours to choose from: Terracotta Orange, Glacier Blue or Chalk White
Popping in the two CR2 batteries (these are included) which is located on the rounded part of the camera, I turned the twisting lens barrel once for on and the light at the front came on, now before I go any further, I ended up hitting the snap button by accident so if you’re getting ready to the perfect picture watch you don’t hit this at the wrong time especially if you only have one instant film left.
You can then further twist to activate the one-touch selfie mode, I was very impressed with just how easy it was to use. Loading the Instant film into the back of the camera, I turned this on again, clicked and the black cover shot out and I was ready to start snapping.
The Instax SQ1 is really pretty light and comfortable to hold, plus it comes with a handy strap so you can place around your neck, even though it has a minimalist design, we received the chalk-white version, I preferred this as it looked super sleek.
I tested all modes including the selfie mode, the mirror came really handy and the snaps appeared great: perfect, if you want to get in the picture too, especially around your Christmas tree. Around the back of the camera near the loading door, there is an automatic film counter showing you how many shots remain in your film pack – excellent and very handy.
Overall even though I usually use my mobile, I adored the Fujifilm Instax SQUARE Instant Camera as it was easy to operate, accurate exposure outdoors, beautiful results, comfortable to hold and to be honest was very cool. If you are looking for a unique Christmas gift this is it!”
