Christmas Taste Test 2023 - Cheese

At the heart of the Christmas cheeseboard tradition is the idea of sharing. It’s not merely about the array of flavours and textures that cheese offers but the opportunity it provides for people to come together and engage in laughter and fun.

And let’s face it, cheeseboard does not only get the convo flowing but also allows us to showcase our artistic side as well. Now what should be on your Christmas cheeseboard?

Cheeses should represent different styles, textures, and flavours so everything from creamy brie to a festive flavoured number is sure to get your guest talking!

So we’ve taste-tested this year’s best festive-inspired cheeses from the UK’s leading supermarkets. Take a look at our top cheeses below including who is our winner of this year’s Cheese taste test.

WINNER: Tesco Wensleydale with Cranberries Hidden Centre, ÂŁ4.00

Christmas Taste Test 2023 -WINNER Tesco Wensleydale with Cranberries Hidden Centre

The first-place winner of our cheese category goes to this stunning square block from Tesco, we felt it looked extremely impressive with the cranberry sprinkles on top and its squared block design. On cutting the cheese it was smooth, creamy and crumbly, inside was a river of deep red cranberry sauce which certainly impressed us. It had aromas of Christmas and had a lovely taste, the cranberry was sweet and not too strong but definitely enough to make you say wow. If you’re looking for the cheeseboard show stopper make sure this is on your shopping list this Christmas.

SECOND PLACE: Asda Baking Cambozola with Cranberry Glaze, £tbd

Rich, creamy, a little stinky and a sweet kick is how we can describe Asda’s Baking Cambozola with Cranberry Glaze. Made with a creamy blue cheese and a cranberry glaze, our team felt it had a vibrant flavour, not over powering if you are new to the blue cheese bigrade it’s a great option to begin with and they also felt this would be lovely with crusty bread on a cold winters evening.

THIRD PLACE: Tesco Sticky Toffee Cheddar Truckle, ÂŁ1.10

Sweet, sticky, crumbly and utterly more-ish. Our team felt the sharp cheddar cheese balanced the sweetness of the toffee pieces throughout and was full of flavour. Well balanced and if you’re feeding a party of cheese fanatics this is certainly one to pip the taste buds.

Iceland British Extra Mature Cheddar 450g, ÂŁ3.80

The staple for any cheeseboard – a strong extra mature cheddar! We felt this was crammed with flavour and had left us wanting to have another slice. For us, this is the perfect all-rounder to please any guests and with leftovers it makes blooming good cheese on toast!

There you have it, our official taste test for this year’s best Christmas cheese. As always all opinions are our own. You can check out the full list of winners here!
