Oh yes it is! Oh no it isn’t! The big question is: Are we likely to see Christmas pantos this year or will they be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic?

Every year families look forward to visiting their local theatre as they sit back and immerse themselves into the fairytale world of pantomime.

So far a few theatres have cancelled pantomimes for this year including:

Norwich Theatre Royal
Buxton
Welwyn Garden City
Leicester Curve
Guildford
Reading
Hexagon
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre
Riverfront, Newport
Theatr Clwyd’s
Knaresborough Frazer Theatre

Other theatres and production companies have stated that they are working hard to bring the pantomimes back but with strict safety and social distancing guidelines in place and will only bring these back when these guidelines can be met.

Bringing in millions of pounds, this 17th century Christmas tradition, which will be seen around the UK, will see both young and old laugh and sing along. Get ready to hiss, boo and shout out loud ‘Look out he’s (or she’s) behind you’ every time the villain appears on stage.

It’s not only pantomimes which are having to cancel because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some Christmas markets have also had to cancel for this year.
