When we decided to replace our wood burning stove in the office Dimplex kindly got in touch and suggested it’s Opti-Myst Grand Rouge Electric stove which not only helps us use less energy and reduces our running costs but it looks exactly like a real wood burning stove. We were kindly sent this to review.
Sceptical at first as we’ve always had a real fire, we weren’t sure just how “realistic” this would look….we were soon to be proven very wrong! Arriving within 24 hours, quicker than we could get our old stove out, we couldn’t wait to open it up. The stove is pretty heavy so you may need more than one person to do this, or like us rip open the box and slide out.
Even switched off, we couldn’t believe how gorgeous the Dimplex Opti-Myst Grand Rouge looked, the cast iron-style stove is finished with a glossy burgundy red, obviously we went for the red because it fitted with our Christmas theme. The double doors which don’t have big bulky handles let you easily see inside to the log effect fuel bed.
Before sliding into place you will see all cables are neatly tucked away meaning no horrible plugs taking pride of place across your floor. Simply plug and play, choose between two heat settings along with flame and smoke effect to give you a fireplace in an instance, what’s more we loved that we could adjust this from the comfort of our chair using the remote control provided.
Once we had manually set the heat settings and smoke effect (all functions are easily accessed on the unit) we sat back and couldn’t believe our eyes, flames and smoke raised up glowed red, perfect for relaxing in front of on a cold winter’s night. Unlike other electric stoves the motor on this was not noisy and it only took a few minutes before we could feel heat being generated, it doesn’t give off burning heat but just a nice warm feel.
The ‘flames’ and ‘smoke’ effect make this “log” fire so realistic and really does create the illusion of a real fire, ensure that you keep the water tank topped up (very easy to access as this is in it’s own unit beneath the fuel bed) as this is how the effect is created.
Opening the doors we were very surprised to notice that the ‘flames’ were cold to touch (yes we did try!) making it perfect for families with children. Throughout the month we have had it on with heat, no smoke or flames, only flame effect and no heating, all settings were fabulous and the icing on the cake? We didn’t have to sit and clean out all the dirty ash every morning!
