When you think of Panettone, like us, you probably thought Christmas however it’s time to think again as Waitrose is set to launch a Easter version of this Italian sweet bread. With traditional spices you would associate with the festive period you will be able to decorate your Hot Cross Bun with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. We asked Waitrose; ‘Why Panettone for Easter?’ Sophie Harrison, Product Developer for the Hot Cross Bun Panettone said:
“Panettone and Hot Cross Buns use similar ingredients such as dried fruit and citrus peel, so it seemed like a match made in heaven. The flavours of both treats work extremely well when put together. and mixing the lightness of a Panettone with the warming spices of a hot cross bun created something deliciously different and special for Easter.
Both Panettone and Hot Cross Buns are extremely well liked with our customers, so it’s no surprise Waitrose shoppers loved our Waitrose Hot Cross Panettone when we launched it in 2016. Due to its popularity we have brought it back this year so customers can really wow their guests when their families and friends gather over Easter.
The Hot Cross Panettone is perfect as a centrepiece for the table, with its spiced icing sugar and cross shaped stencil, the aroma of hot cross buns will fill the room as it is dusted on top, making it a real showstopper.”
Available at Waitrose for £9 from Wednesday 8th of March could this be superstores trying to make Easter as popular as Christmas? Either way we’re happy to taste!
