Christmas Review 2017: Gtech Cordless Hedge Trimmer HT05-Plus

We were delighted when Gtech sent us over their new Cordless Hedge Trimmer HT05-Plus and John volunteered to put it through it’s paces.  This is what he said about it:

“My old (very old!) electric hedge trimmer had eventually given up on me this Summer and this cordless, battery operated trimmer couldn’t have arrived at a better time.

Autumn has well and truly arrived and our hedges, bushes and shrubs all needed a quick trim before the weather turns colder and wetter.  I was delighted to find inside the brown Gtech box the hedge trimmer, battery, charger, guarantee and a quick start guide, leaving me with absolutely nothing to do – no battery to fit, or blade to put in place, it really was ready to go, which compared to most I would be sitting for sometime putting together.

Some of our hedges hadn’t been trimmed for quite some time and were blocking light from my home so as you would expect I braced myself for a long day of moving cables around the garden, trying to reach awkward areas and starting and stopping to ensure the trimmer didn’t burn out however fortunately the Gtech has an extendable reach of 1.7m so it easily reached the tops of our hedges, some of which were almost 3 metres tall, no cables to trip over (huge bonus) and it never once needed to be stopped for over usage.

What I liked most about this HT05 was just how slimline and lightweight it really was, I asked Elaine to pop out for a go (normally Elaine would be warey) however she also agreed that is was so slimline, light and not bulky. Moving around the garden to tackle jobs which I had put off becuase either the bushes were to overgrown and would take to much time however I was done so much quicker without strain and the hedges looked the better.

Accidents do happen, but fortunately the HT05-plus features a safety switch that prevents accidental start plus with no cables you wont accidently cut through them.

The only slight downside was that the battery for the hedge trimmer is built in, so a power point is required for charging, a second battery would have made it 100% perfect! however for just a one 3-hour charge you did get a full 45 minutes run-time.  As for noise it can be loud (like many others) however a pair of over-ear headphones done the trick just fine.

I felt that it was the perfect weight for me to use and within the hour cutting time I managed to get around most of the garden.

Hastle free, cordless and so easy to use I feel that the Gtech HT05 Plus long reach hedge trimmer makes a valuable addition to my gardening tools and would make the ideal gift for any keen gardener this Christmas.”
