Buddy the Elf stars in Asda’s Christmas 2022 TV Advert

Asda has revealed its Christmas advert for 2022 – and they’re certainly spreading the cheer for all to hear as it brings back Buddy the Elf!

Watch the full Asda Christmas advert below:

Nobody spreads Christmas cheer quite like Buddy the Elf and obviously, Asda feels the same, well they would be cotton headed ninny muggins if they didn’t as they bring everyone’s favourite 6ft elf back!

Teaming up with Warner Bros, Asda’s Christmas advert sees a new festive colleague joining the team and its none other than Buddy the Elf.

Asda Christmas Advert 2022 - Buddy the Elf

The opening scene (set to Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town) see’s Buddy who was last seen on our screens back in 2003 (how has it been so long ago!?) and pays homage to Elf’s iconic ‘street crossing’ scene – except this time, it’s a train of Asda shopping trolleys, not a New York City cab, that causes Buddy to exclaim “sorry!” as it crashes into him.

As the trial shift begins, we see a very excited Buddy drool at Asda’s selection of Christmas goodies including some enticing icing sugar sprinkled Extra Special mince pies, scoffing all the free maple pigs in blankets samples, distract colleagues with his Christmas plans, and spreading the cheer for all to hears as he takes the chance to sing loudly over the store Tannoy system.

As the UK retailer closes, yes you guessed it, Buddy is back to his old tricks again, as he adds his own magic touch by decking out the entire shop with Christmas decorations including a nod to the 2003 film where he jumps on the tree.

Morning arrives and managers and staff arrive and it becomes quickly apparent that when it comes to Christmas, Buddy and Asda are a match made in heaven and he’s landed the job.

As he dashes – enthusiastically, of course – out of the store, he runs straight into the same shopping trolleys he encountered on his way in, causing a bemused colleague to smile, as the campaign line ‘Have your Elf a Merry Christmas’ flashes up on-screen.

Sam Dickson, Acting Chief Customer Officer at Asda says: “Like Buddy, we absolutely love Christmas – so we’re thrilled to welcome him to our team. We know this has been a tough year for so many people, which is why we want to create some little moments of joy for families this year with our Christmas campaign, and more importantly, our amazing products. We hope that with a little bit of help from Buddy, our joy-filled Christmas offering will create some festive magic and helps give families a Christmas to remember together.”

As part of its commitment to spreading Christmas cheer, Asda will also be giving a special festive surprise to five different community groups, to give them the chance to celebrate Christmas, collecting toys for children’s charities, will have local choirs and bands playing throughout December in stores plus Asda cafĂ©s providing a ÂŁ1 meal deal for OAPs, continuing its popular kids eat for ÂŁ1 deal, as well as cost-of-living grants to support community groups with increased rent and bills.

Fingers crossed we can spend a day with Elf making snow angels, going ice skating, eating cookie dough and letting him do our full grocery shop!

Asda now joins the plethora of festive adverts including M&S, Very, TKMaxx and Studio and we can’t wait for more to land.
