It’s no surprise that shavers and trimmers are amongst some of the most popular gifts for Men over Christmas, but with so many options available, it can often be difficult deciding on which one is the best to get. As we mentioned before, we were gifted the Braun MGK5080 9 in 1 Styling Kit.
Boasting 9 accessories and a li-on battery for 100 minutes of trimming, this is certain to make the perfect gift for Christmas 2020.
We asked John to test this out and here are his thoughts:
“I have tried all sorts of trimmers and shavers in the past and whilst very effective, I often find myself needing to use different trimmers for different reasons, which means always having to have all of the trimmers charged. I’m looking forward to trying this one that has nine different attachments so that I can stick to simply using one device rather than several.
First off, charging this is really easy – plug in (no batteries needed hurrah!) and it charges quickly (you can get a quick charge within 5 minutes). The Li-on battery claims to allow 100 minutes of trimming when fully charged which is ideal for going on holiday or if you’re like me and just forget to charge things.
The attachments are very simple to attach – simply just snap them on and off when required. The 9-in-1 kit includes a face and beard trimmer, hair trimmer, body groomer, ear and nose trimmer and a clean shave razor. The device is also waterproof meaning it can be used wet or dry and also has an Autosensing motor ensuring constant cutting speed for an efficient trim even through dense and long beards.
It all sounds really impressive, but I’m in desperate need of a trim and tidy up so it’s time to put it to the test!
I prefer to trim out of the shower so I can look in the mirror whilst using it. I have a short beard and moustache (I’m afraid to say however that I don’t look so much like the model on the box!). I really wanted to trim all over and neaten the edges.
I attached the 3-11mm trimmer and got to work. Initially I was a little hesitant using this in case I shaved it all off accidentally, but after a few seconds I was fully into the swing of things. It took roughly 5 minutes to trim all over my beard and I was starting to look less like Chewbacca and more like myself again.
To neaten up the edges, I was torn between using the free Gillette Fusion5 ProGlide razor that comes with the set or the precision trimming attachment. In the end, I opted for the precision trimming (4) attachment. Within a few minutes, I had neatened up my edges and was good to go.
Throughout the trimming process, I never noticed any loss in power unlike other devices which often cut out half way through using due to having a poor battery. This worked on full power perfectly.
Overall, I am really impressed with this. In fact, i’m ready to throw out all the other trimmers/shavers so I can continue to just use one device! ”
