Following the success of ‘The Highway Rat’ on their Christmas premiere, the BBC has announced that an animated adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s ‘Zog’ is set for BBC One debut this Christmas 2018.
‘The Highway Rat’ raked in 6 million viewers over Christmas, making it the 8th most popular show of Christmas Day! Voiced by a barrage of stars including David Tennant & Rob Brydon. Considering it’s success, it will come as no surprise that following in their footsteps comes Zog, the loveable dragon.
Zog is a loveable young dragon trying to find his way in a magical, yet challenging world. The animation will run for half an hour at Christmas. Zog was first published in 2010 by Alison Green Books (an imprint of Scholastic). It won the Galaxy National Children’s Book of the Year Award and has sold over 1.5 million copies, meaning this is certain to pull in millions of viewers over the festive season.
Speaking of Zog, Michael Rose, Co-Founder, Magic Light Pictures said; “It’s wonderful to be bringing this amazing Donaldson/Scheffler title to BBC One following The Highway Rat’s success. Zog is a tremendous character in a world of dragons, princesses and knights, an adventure the family can all enjoy watching together.’
