BBC Radio 3 Announces Christmas 2017 Line-Up

BBC Radio 3 has today announced the start of its December line-up including festive readings by Dickins, A Bach Christmas and the Christmas Carol competition.

We’ve put together the latest confirmed shows you can tune into hear this Christmas over on BBC Radio 3.

The Breakfast Carol competition 2017 – Launching September 1st, listeners and rising composers have a chance to create a brand new carol for SATB choir set to the words of the 15th centuary, Sir Christemas. Six finalists will then have their carols preformed live by the BBC singers in the lead up to Christmas. The public will then be able to vote for their favourite with the winning carol announced live on Breakfast on 22 December, and played throughout Christmas day on Radio 3. The deadline for submissions is 1 November.

This Christmas will be a Bach Christmas. From the 1 to 24 December, Radio 3 Breakfast will play one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent 24 Preludes and Fugues from the first book of his Well Tempered Clavier. Bach Christmas will finish on Sunday 24th December (Christmas Eve) with special performances of Bach’s musical offerings by Belgian ensemble Barocco Tout.

BBC Radio 3 Horatio Clare Hay Walk

Join Simon Callow on December 21st –  and the BBC Singers for an afternoon of festive readings by Dickins where throughout the show Victorian Christmas carols will also be sung. Taking place at St Luke’s Chelsea,the church where Dickens was married in 1836.

This Christmas, Katie Derham will unpick the music and choreography of the most well known festive ballet’s – Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Date and times are to be announced shortly.
