Christmas Gift Review 2018: Laithwaites Wine Advent Calendar

Counting down to Christmas has never been so tasty or relaxed thanks to the Laithwaites Wine Advent Calendar. We were kindly sent this to review, here we take an in-depth look at this tasty advent!

What better way to countdown to Christmas than with an advent Calendar? The answer to that is ‘With a WINE Advent Calendar’.  Laithwaites have released a ‘Merry And Bright’ wine advent calendar for 2018 which includes everything from red, to white and even some champagne to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

Featuring 24 doors and different varieties of wine, the Laithwaites Wine Advent calendar is the perfect way to enjoy a festive tipple and try out new varieties of wine in the run up to Christmas.

As soon as this arrived, we had every member of staff vying to try it out, so instead of arguing over who got to take this home, we decided that we would all take turns to try it out.

The advent calendar arrived in a huge long box which was pretty heavy. Thankfully, as this opens it has instructions on the side of the box on how to make a stand out of the box so that this sits up slightly.

We know it’s not quite December yet but in the interest of review purposes, we took it in turns to open ONE door each.

Speaking about the advent calendar, Katy said:

“The moment this arrived at UTCT HQ we each started to give a speech on why we felt we should be the one who deserved to trial it out. We came to the agreement that we could all open one door each and keep the contents behind that door – the rest will be kept for the office Christmas party which seemed fair! Anyway, I was first up and opened my door (I won’t tell you which number so not to spoil the surprise!) but behind my door was a Sauvignon Blanc. Thankfully I love a good white wine so this was right up my street. I love the idea of opening one of these everyday in the run up to Christmas. It will give me something to look forward to having after a day at UTCT HQ whilst I wrap some coal for my colleagues…”

We won’t bore you by telling you what everyone got from the advent calendar,  but we will share Johns thoughts:

“After stopping everyone from stealing this, we agreed to all open one door each as Katy previously mentioned. Again, I won’t tell you which door I chose to open so not to spoil the surprise for anyone who buys this, but I got a bottle of Merlot. I’m a big fan of red wine, especially over Christmas so this certainly worked out well for me, but if I didn’t like one of the wines I opened, I could easily add them as a stocking filler for friends & family which is what makes this advent calendar so wonderful. The variety in this is brilliant and like Katy says, it’s something to look forward to at the end of each day. Hopefully no coal for me, however!”

Their beer advent is very very poor. Cheap beers, repeated & predominantly from brewery’s you’ve never heard of. Very disappointing and clearly put out there as a margin earner. Avoid like the plague.
