Join us for our Christmas Taste Test 2025 as we try Tesco’s festive range. From free from mince pies to a buttery, fruity Panettone! See our highlights here.
Every Christmas, the team here at UnderTheChristmasTree gathers together for our much-loved annual Christmas Taste Test, and this year we’re thrilled to welcome back Tesco to the festive lineup.
The UK supermarket has gone all out again for 2025, with a host of new goodies to tuck into. From Charcuter-tree to impress your guests, to Maple Bacon & Chestnut Sliced Sprouts, there’s something for everyone.
But as always, here at UTCT, we like to try the more indulgent pieces, so to keep things fair, we invited members of our team, friends, and family to join in the fun, ensuring a wide range of taste buds and opinions. After all, Christmas is all about sharing – especially when it comes to delicious food.
Kicking off the tasting, we sat down to try Tesco’s new free-from range and wow, the collection is mouthwatering! First off, Tesco’s Free From Almond & Orange mincemeat slices were utterly gorgeous. Our testers said these were smooth, not dry at all (or gloopy) and had a real zing!
Next were the free from 9 Mini Mince Pie’s the pastry on these was light and melted in the mouth! Perfectly filled with a good mix of fruit, including currants and raisins, the brandy also gave a lovely hit.
Lastly, the free from chocolate gingerbread Pals are the perfect match to top your hot chocolate! These bite-sized treats had a good, smooth texture and didn’t feel powdery. Our tasters said these had a good balance of caramel (style) filling, which was creamy and not too much.

Next up, Tesco Finest Savoury Nibbles Selection – We felt these had a good choice – All butter Parmesan and garlic puff pastry twists, gruyere and poppy seed puff pastry twists and rosemary breadsticks! Each had a good snap to it. The garlic was not too strong at first, and the poppy seeds we evenly distributed on the Gruyere breadsticks. Overall, these would be perfect for a gathering, but watch out as they are not vegetarian!
Tesco’s Confit Garlic Crackers were our tasters’ favourite from the nibble line-up; they said that these were baked to perfection! Light, buttery and the garlic packs a punch! Very more-ish and perfect for any cheeseboard.
Next up – Tesco’s Black Forest Christmas Pudding! Easy to cook, smelled delicious when cooking and couldn’t wait to try! The chocolate chunks were evenly spread throughout the pudding, whilst the glacé cherries were just enough! The shot of kirsch certainly gave that extra kick of cherry indulgence, and if you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional pudding, this would tick all boxes!
And lastly – Tesco’s Buttery and Fruity Panettone had a great texture – light, airy and not stodgy at all! The aromatic fruits had a great taste and a real sweet kick to them. This would definitely be a crowd pleaser on the buffet table!
