The film adaptation which will star Emma Thompson will be released in the U.K and Ireland in Christmas 2022 and we can’t wait!
‘Matilda’ is the film adaptation of the multi-award-winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl.
Like the musical the film will tell the tale of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination, dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results like Matilda said “Never do things by halves. Go the whole hog.” and by the looks of the stellar cast line-up we’re pretty sure the film will!
Its star-studded cast includes Alisha Weir (Matilda), Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull, and Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey. Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough will play Matilda’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, and Sindhu Vee joins the ensemble cast as librarian Mrs. Phelps, plus Tony® and Olivier Award winner Matthew Warchus, who directed Matilda The Musical for the West End and Broadway, will direct the film adaptation.
However, fans will have to wait a little longer before watching as ‘Matilda’ is not set to be released in cinemas in the U.K and Ireland until December 2022 for Christmas. Netflix will release the film to the rest of the world in December 2022.
We can’t wait to hear Emma Thompson scream “You wanted cake, you got cake…NOW EAT IT.”
