Hull Truck Theatre are bringing Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist to life this Christmas.
Following the success of A Christmas Carol last year, playwright Deborah McAndrew returns with her own magical version of Oliver Twist. The show will l include traditional carols, folk songs and original music and will be directed by Hull Truck Theatre’s Artistic Director Mark Babych.
Mark Babych, Artistic Director at Hull Truck Theatre, says: ‘Christmas is often the time when families come together to go to theatre and it is an honour to create a few magical hours of storytelling that everyone can enjoy.
Audiences loved A Christmas Carol last year, so we couldn’t resist diving back into a Dickensian world for this year’s Christmas show. Deborah McAndrew’s adaptation is a wonderful festive take on a tale we all know and love, full of eccentric characters and festive themes of family and generosity.’
Deborah McAndrew, Playwright, says:‘Oliver Twist is born poor and alone in a world of villainy. Famously, he’s the boy who asked for ‘more’ but all he really wants is a home and a family. In my festive adaptation, Oliver’s adventures are set over one year, in which our young hero journeys through darkness and dang er towards the light of Christmas.’
Oliver Twist will run from Friday 30th November 2018 until Saturday 5th January 2019. Tickets will be on sale from Monday 19th March and will cost from £10 – £26.
This year the theatre will also be offering early bird rate and a ‘Pay What You Can’ night. Early bird family and friends for parties of four will get £3 off per full price tickets, and must include at least one over 18 and one under 18.
There will also be a Pay What You Can night on November 30th 2018, offering an opportunity for those who might otherwise not be able to afford to attend, or who might be experiencing the theatre for the first time.
