LOVE the karaoke and can’t get enough of Christmas songs? well you might just be getting the song lyrics all wrong!
‘All I Want for Christmas’ and ‘12 Days of Christmas’ are amoungst the top Christmas songs we most commonly mis-sing according to leading retirement community developer McCarthy & Stone.
So what are the most misheard Christmas lyrics? according to research these were:
‘12 Days of Christmas’
Misquoted lyric: “On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me, four colly birds”
Correct lyric: “On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me, four calling birds”
‘All I Want for Christmas’
Misquoted lyric: “Take back the Harley and mistletoe”
Correct lyric: “Take back the holly and mistletoe”
‘Frosty the Snowman’
Misquoted lyric: “With a broom stuck in his head”
Correct lyric: “With a broom stuck in his hand”
‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’
Misquoted lyric: “Olive the other reindeer”
Correct lyric: “All of the other reindeer”
Misquoted lyric: “Bells on cocktail rings”
Correct lyric: “Bells on bobtail rings”
Their research also found that singing releases ‘feel good’ hormones like endorphins, and Sandra Colston, musical director of Funky Voices advised, that the choice of music has a big part to play in this. She suggested that music should “invoke memories, touch your emotions, make you tap your foot or make the hairs on your arms stand up”.
A spokesperson from McCarthy & Stone added: “To help our residents, their guests and the surrounding communities get into the Christmas spirit, we are also hosting a range of ‘At Home’ and Christmas choir events at our developments across the UK.
“These ‘At Home’ events will bring people together to celebrate the festive season, along with a glass or two of fizz, indulgent treats and seasonal soundtracks – hopefully with all the right lyrics!”
