Torvill And Dean To Star In Panto This Christmas

Olympic ice skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are set to make their panto debut in Manchester as stars of this years show Cinderella.

The skating stars will be the Fairy Godparents in the magical festive show with the promise of a spectacular skating performance on stage to wow theater audiences.

The duo will swap their ice-skates for hi-tech roller-blades to perform on stage and there is also the promise of daredevil aerial stunts too.

Jayne says: “This will be our first ever pantomime and something we’ve been wanting to do for some time. We’re already working on some brand new choreography which we hope will bring a whole lot more excitement to the wonderful Cinderella story and reworking some old favourites too.”

Christopher adds: “We’re really looking forward to bringing Cinderella to life on skates and spending the festive season in Manchester. We can’t wait for Christmas now!”

With the prime-time favourite Dancing On Ice show ending in 2014 it has given the Olympic champions time to dedicate to panto.

Jayne says: “It’s the right time for us. Dancing on Ice has finished now, and we’re ready.

“We believe in fate and not planning too far ahead, and we find these opportunities kind of pop up.

Christopher says: “The great thing is when we are working, it’s when we are together. She misses me if we’re not together!”

“Panto has a huge following and great tradition in Manchester, so it’s great to join a huge production for our first year.”

There won’t be ice – but the duo will be skating on stage with special in-line skates, and the duo had their first look at the Opera House stage at the weekend to discuss all the plans for the show with producers.

Christopher says: “It’s a great stage here for what we want to do. What has been great is that all the producers are really accommodating and want to gear things around the skating and what we want to do. It’s nice to see they’re open to suggestions from us. You will still see a traditional story but with a unique twist.

“We’ll be bringing out our humorous side too – there’s a lot of it, it’s just usually between the two of us!”

Cinderella will play at the Opera House from December 4 to January 3 2016 and tickets are on sale now from atgtickets.com/manchester or 0844 8713018
