It’s Candlemas!

We’re tempted to get the Christmas decorations out again after realising that February 2nd is actually Candlemas. Not sure what Candlemas even means? …Find out all about the day below.

Candlemas is a Christian holiday commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple. It falls on February 2 which is 40 days after Christmas.  The celebration is not as mainstream as Christmas itself, but after learning many people choose to keep their decorations up until after Candlemas has been celebrated, it seems like an occasion we can get involved in!

Many Christians bring their candles to their local church where the candles are blessed and are used throughout the remainder of the year.

Some people also have another ‘Christmas Dinner’ which is consumed with friends and family.

After Candlemas, whilst the candles will remain in the home, the other Christmas related decorations will be taken down and stowed away until the following Christmas.

Anything that means we get to keep our decorations up and get to enjoy another Christmas feast is more than alright with us!
