Magic Light Pictures unveils three charming BBC Christmas idents featuring beloved Gruffalo characters — commissioned for BBC One & iPlayer. Watch here.

The festive season has officially begun! The big brands are rolling out their Christmas adverts — Aldi, Asda, and of course John Lewis — the Christmas trees are being dusted off from the attic, and TV schedules are being revealed (see BBC’s Christmas 2025 line-up here).
And now BBC has unwrapped its Christmas 2025 idents, starring none other than the Gruffalo and his friends. A delightful sprinkle of storybook magic that’s set to bring festive cheer to screens across the nation.
This year’s idents bring beloved characters to life in festive style! Harry O’Hay and Betty O’Barley from The Scarecrow’s Wedding get a surprise Christmas visit from Santa, while Zog, Pearl and Gadabout soar in from Zog and the Flying Doctors. And saving the biggest treat for last — the Gruffalo, the Gruffalo’s Child, and even Stick Man and his family all join the holiday celebration. A magical gathering of favourites straight from the storybooks!

Kate Phillips, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, said: “Magic Light have done the BBC proud and created three unforgettable idents that beautifully capture the festive spirit. Featuring a selection of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s most popular characters, I hope they will spread some extra joy and togetherness into homes across the UK.”
It really is beginning to look a lot llike Christmas!
