BBC iPlayer breaks records over the 2020 Christmas period, thanks to EastEnders and Call the Midwife!
HUGE amount of festive shows to enjoy.
With further lockdown and restrictions, it seems we all took to streaming more fantastic Christmas shows as BBC iPlayer announces its most successful festive year in 2020 with the iPlayer seeing 245 million streams* over the holidays (21 December 2020 – 3 January 2021).
The Christmas Day episode of EastEnders topped the list as the most viewed programme of the festive fortnight, with over 1.5 million streams and Call The Midwife coming in at a close second with just over 1.4 million views.
New Year’s Day was the biggest day in that time, with 21.2 million streams, the most popular New Year ever on iPlayer with viewers enjoying one of the biggest binged dramas of the year – The Serpent.
Charlotte Moore, Chief Content Officer says: “The unparalleled range of programmes on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds delivered a record breaking Christmas this year. More people chose a personalised version of the BBC and sought out content on a scale we’ve not seen before from the breadth of entertainment and escapism available.”
Well, we do have more time to watch all of the specials from the start again, we’re heading to the iPlayer now!
