It’s certainly a controversial claim to make and has caused many a discussion at UTCT HQ this morning (90’s kids KNOW that was the best time for music! Right?) but a new survey which was commissioned by Greatest Hits Radio has revealed that Brits think the year 1984 was the best year for music, thanks to songs such as Prince’s ‘Purple Rain‘, Frankie Goes To Hollywoods “Relax” and most importantly, Band Aids ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’.

Greatest Hits Radio presenter Pat Sharp said: “1984 was an amazing year, I’m not surprised it has been voted the greatest for music and memories, and Band Aid gave us a Christmas to never forget.”
We absolutely love Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know it’s Christmas’!
Most of 1984’s output was boring, especially the three you mentioned. The best year for music for me was 1966.
I totally agree with Agnetha! 1966 and the psychedelic sounds of 1967 for me every time.
