I have super thick hair, so when it comes to drying and styling a sense of dread (and arm ache) instantly consumes my thoughts, so when GHD’s new Platnium+ deluxe set arrived with us, I couldn’t wait to try especially as the styler has smart technology which responds to styling speed AND the thickness of your hair and its Helios Hair Dryer is lightweight and can drastically cut down blow dry time, Halle-HAIR-lujah!
Now before I start, the set does cost an eye-watering £368 so it’s certainly a purchase you’re going to want your money worth from, however, I can safely safe I won’t be trading these in any time soon as they’ve been that good and my hair has never been in such great condition.

I’ll begin with the outer packaging: Part of GHD’s ‘Wish Upon A Star Collection’ the white box is simplistic and stunning, with gold shooting stars and text, it will really make quite the statement under anyone’s Christmas tree, personally I don’t even feel you would need to wrap this as the box is so nice.
Sliding off the lid, the midnight blue vanity case awaited me, to be honest, the carry case sold it to me instantly, I love anything that stores beauty tools neat and tidy, this was so gorgeous I could see any movie star holding onto one of these as they fly off to their next big event, plus it’s bang on trend with the Pantone colour of the year – Classic Blue and would make the ultimate beauty gift.
As I unzipped the case, both the Platnium+ styler & Helios Hair Dryer were stored safely inside, they both had their own velvety feel slot and didn’t budge when walking with the bag, I know it can be tempting to chuck this part away however I think I’ll keep this so the products don’t bash into each other or mark the case, I’ll see how long this lasts!
The design of each of the products have an icy winter wonderland feel about them, the platinum+ hair straightener had a pearlescent shimmer (even sort of unicorn-ish) colour and the gold accents on the dryer really felt as though you were about to use something which would give you better-looking hair than the models on the runway (If I could just master the perfect curl!).
So let’s begin with the GHD Helios Professional Dryer, I washed and towelled dried my hair and gave a quick brush through. On the handle of the dryer, there are three temperature settings: Max, Medium and Cool, the lower switches on the handle are for fan speed, again: Max, Medium and off, I decided to go for no nozzle, as you hair dries quicker that way, however a quick heads up, if you are going to use the nozzle for drying it can be very tight to get on, however, I’ve experienced this with other hairdryers and it’s just because it’s new.
Turning both buttons on to medium settings this gave a good amount of power and I quickly began to dry. After around 5 mins I decided to crank it up to maximum speed on both and (after the shock of how strong it was) I was hugely impressed on how quick my hair was drying, finally, no more time wasted on separating your hair (unless you want to) or hand and arm ache after holding upright for so long, and instead of the usual, 30-40 minutes of boring drying, I managed to do this in around 10-15 minutes, my hair felt soft, shiny and not frizzy! The Helios dryer is pretty loud and very powerful.
So now my hair is prepped for styling, I grabbed the shimmering white Platnium+ stylers, which are extremely lightweight and plugged in, I loved how it flashed around the ON/OFF switch to let me know it was connected and when I turned on it even played a fun short start-up tune, this also plays when you turn them off too.
With these being smart stylers, that means the styler responds to the styling speed and thickness of your hair, so fingers crossed this will mean that when I do finish my hair its ALL completely done, and no strand has been left curly or frizzy. I separated my hair into sections and began, the stylers glided through my hair with no snagging or pulling (unlike my last branded ones) and it left my hair very straight and shiny, actually, my hair has really never looked so good.
One of the key points that I really do think is very important is that these GHD’s uses Ultra-Zone technology, which basically means they stay at a consistent temperature of 185°C and unlike other stylers which heat up to a very hot 230°C, these will avoid hair damage and 2 times less colour fade!
Once completed, my hair looked and felt great also I was very chuffed that my poor hand wasn’t aching or sore from holding the stylers to long as they are ultra-lightweight.
Other key points to note: Sleep mode which will turn the Platinum+ styler off after 30 minutes of non-use, a light will pulse until the plates are safe and cool. Protect mode: If adverse events happen (like power fluctuations!) it will emit a beep and flash white for 5 secs, simply unplug and re-plug to restart.
Would I invest in a pair of these – the simple answer 100% yes, not only are they everything you need for the perfect hair day, they do exactly what they say they do! now I’m off to learn how to master the art of curling.”
