It doesn’t seem long ago that we spent hours untangling Christmas tree lights, binning our real wreaths and sweeping up old torn party hats, however it appears we’ll soon be putting all of these back up again as UK retailer’s launch Easter inspired decs.

So has Easter turned into Christmas? We spoke to some of the UK’s major retailers who say they saw a huge increase last year for products including crackers.

A Waitrose spokeperson said; “Crackers and baubles are a staple at Christmas, and with Easter being the second biggest occasion of the year for family gatherings, there was a real demand from our customers for decorations at Easter too.

“We’ve sold Easter crackers for the last four Easters and they’ve proved a hit with Waitrose customers, as we saw sales last year increasing by 63% and 29% in 2016. We know our customers love to decorate their homes at Easter too, and we have an array of options for them to choose from including Easter trees, wreaths and a beautiful range of cook and dine products.

“Whilst traditional chocolate gifts will always fly off the shelves, crackers and cuddly toys also make a great alternative gift, giving customers plenty to choose from. The crackers also contain puzzles and games, which are perfect for keeping children entertained at the dinner table.”

We’ve always known the long weekend was widely considered as a time to get together with friends and family to roll our eggs, but these days more and more families are marking the occasion with gifts, a big meal including a panettone and decorations.

We asked Hobbycraft just how popular Easter decorations are, a spokesperson said; “Spring is known as the time to get cleaning and spruce up the home, so Easter is the perfect excuse to get crafty and create some special homemade seasonal decorations.

Easter decorations, such as fillable glass baubles to speckled eggs and faux flowers to mini multicolour chicks, are set to be bestsellers this year at Hobbycraft. We suggest popping them on our signature white trees to create a fabulous centrepiece”

From table top accessories to tree hanging decorations it appears that the new craze for Easter decorations is only set to get bigger. UK retailer John Lewis said that demand has only increased from last year.

Lisa Rutherford, Seasonal Events Buyer at John Lewis said: “‘John Lewis saw a much higher demand for Easter Decorations last year.  For 2018, our assortment supports this growth in popularity in both width and depth and we’ve introduced a greater selection of tree hanging decorations and table top accessories. Easter is a relatively inexpensive way to celebrate a special time of year and events focused around children and family always capture people’s imagination and decorating is part of that.”
