We here at UTCT are never ones to miss out on an opportunity to celebrate. This Friday the 8th May 2020 is the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe day and the UK, amongst many others, are set to celebrate the occasion in a unique way.
Due to lockdown and the ongoing Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic, celebrations are understandably limited to what we can do individually at home. Whether you choose to have a themed tea party with your family (or whoever you may live with), a zoom call with your loved ones, or if you’re solo buglers/trumpeters/cornet players, there’s always a way to celebrate.
According to the VE Day 75 website, people are being encouraged to remember war heroes by “taking part to undertake the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm on the 8th May, from the safety of their own home by standing up and raise a glass of refreshment of their choice and undertake the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,” using this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.”
Across our television screens, we can expect to hear speeches from Winston Churchill and even a speech from the Queen.
You can even visit the BBC make a difference website and download your own bunting for the occasion.
From all of us here at UTCT, To those who gave so much, we thank you.
