Would you rather ride a Bike or Build a Snowman this Christmas?

Halfords have recently released their Christmas TV advert which features children playing on their bikes and snowy scenes. The main focus of the advert is the question “Does Anything Beat A Bike?”.

We went around our office and asked some of our staff what they thought. We asked Katy “As a child, would you have preferred a bike or snow on Christmas morning?” Katy replied with;-

“a Bike! My Dad would never let me ride my bike in the snow so I would have preferred the bike and no snow, but I always had to wear stabilizers on my bike. I liked to go fast.”

When we asked Mandy the same question, she said;-

“Oh definitely snow! Nothing beats waking up on Christmas morning and seeing a white blanket of snow outside. There’s something magical about it. Plus, festive snowball fights are some of my favourite Christmas memories!”

We decided to mix up the questions a bit, and asked John if as a child, would he have preferred Santa Claus to leave him a bike? or his Christmas Day dinner? (yes, we were being a bit mean!) John said;-

“That’s a tricky one, but I think as a young ‘un I would have preferred the bike and would have eaten my Chocolate selection boxes for my dinner! Having said that, I never did get the hang of riding a bike, my balance was terrible!”

Just to be even meaner, we asked Elaine our final question which was “As a child, would you have rather had your bike and no other presents at all? or lots of presents and no bike?” (the plot thickens!)

Elaine replied with;-

“That’s easy! I would rather have had lots of other presents and no bike. Part of the thrill on Christmas Morning is seeing lots of parcels and ripping them open, a bike would be great but I would have preferred a dolly or a colouring book.”

So it looks like it’s pretty even! There’s no doubt that waking up to a bike under the tree is exciting for most children, but it seems that a few things beat a bike.
